Just days before LaMar Cook was arrested and charged with cocaine trafficking out of Maura Healey’s western Massachusetts office, the Springfield District Court issued a judgement against him in a civil debt collection case.
On October 23, 2025 Cook was found liable for $2,491.11 due to Portfolio Recovery Associates, LLC, a debt collection agency that buys defaulted consumer debts.
In May 2024 the Springfield District Court also entered a final judgement against Cook for $5,912.80 in a case brought by Capital One.
Cook is due in a Springfield courtroom this morning for a “motion hearing”, he was arrested on the cocaine charges October 28, 2025.
Both cases have been “Disposed for Statistical Purposes” according to the masscourts website.
Cook was hired by Healey in April 2023 after working at the Hotel UMass since 2016. Some of the drugs Cook is alleged to have trafficked were delivered to the loading dock at the hotel.
Cook has been unable to post $75,000 in cash bail and has been held in the Hampden County House of Correction since November.
